Given the "mild" weather this weekend - the following ainting was inspired from a lovely day I spent at the Pinery with my brother, sister-in-law, and niece and nephew this past summer. This painting (which I actually painted a couple of weeks ago), was a house-warming gift to a friend and colleague. So you might be wondering, if this was painted a few weeks ago - then what did I paint this weekend. I spent this weekend "painting ahead" for my Jan 30-in-30 challenge. Stay tuned for Jan to see these works :)
Finally... a good size painting! This one is 24" x 36" - painted as a commission from the LHSC Country Classic Auction.
"Autumn Falls" will be going to a happy, loving home with the kind and wonderful couple that 'won' the commission from the auction. In terms of the 'artistic process', I started by gesso-ing a cradled birch panel. This was followed by toning the entire board with a mixture of Quinacridone Red & Hansa Yellow Medium (both transparent)... See work in progress collage below...
This weeks painting was inspired by a photo I took while on vacation in Newfoundland this past May. The photo was taken from the comfort of Chucky's Seafood and Wildgame restaurant (mmm... brings back memories of the delicious lobster I had there!!). I will be setting this painting aside as a Christmas gift...
On a quick side note... this weeks painting sadly is not a reflection of the weather here in Ontario ... Brrr it's getting cold out. While London didn't get any snow accumulation, my parents (just 35 minutes away) got a number of inches of snow (see photo below!)
Oh dear... no painting for me this weekend. However, still productive enough with a) a dog photoshoot for Christmas calendars and b) the St. Thomas Elgin Artist Guild Show (where I won my first ribbon-- an honourable mention). With so much amazing art from talented artists, this ribbon was a true honour.
Hopefully I will have some new art to share next Sunday :)
I believe art is meant to be shared. I am a Canadian landscape painter that works primary in oils & acrylics. I create works both en plein air & in the studio.
