Day 14 to 16: 30 Drawings in 30 Days

Hello friends!

Oh dear, I have fallen a bit behind again!  Here are my drawings for days 14-16.  My excuse for being behind?  I think it is just one of those January's... the short days and cold weather seem to zap the extra energy & motivation I reserve to work on my art.  But I'm not to worried it... just a phase.  I'm listening to my body and giving it plenty of rest and down time.  "This too shall pass".

Day 14: This is a skull I am working on for the Master Skill Building Challenge through Watts Atelier.  You'll notice I did not complete the skull drawing - I only took this  drawing as far as this weeks challenge asked.  I will work it to full completion over the next couple of weeks.

Day 15: A tribute to my childhood... the Fraggles!  This sketch is based on my sister's stuffed Wembley doll.

Day 16:  Back in 2009, my sister (Amy), sister-in-law (Cassie), and I visited Scotland.  This is a sketch of a highland cow we spotted on the trip.

As promised, here is my first skull.  More to follow.  As part of my course, we have to draw it at MANY different angles and become very comfortable with the skulls anatomy.

HEADS, HEADS, HEADS

Today's drawing is a little different.  As part of my online course through Watts Atelier, I completed the following assignment on head lay-ins.  The next assignment in my course involves sketching the human skull.... so I'm sure I will be sharing these with you!!  Till tomorrow.

Day 6: Sketch of Long Point Lighthouse in Twillingate, NL
I am behind on this challenge... 2 days behind to be exact.  But don't fret... I plan to catch up this weekend.  A busy week at work and an under-the-weather dog squashed my motivation to draw in the evenings.

Happy New Year & Day 1

"Drawing is the 'bones' of art. You have to be able to walk before you can run."  ~Dion Archibald

Welcome to 2016...
Happy new years friends.  Hope everyone rang in the new year safely and enjoyably!  My evening included delicious homemade pasta, a mean game of euchre, and streaming the ball drop on my Mac.   Now that the new year is here - time to think about my art goals!

One of my major goals for this upcoming year is to improve the quality of my work.  It is with that intention in mind that I start my fourth 30-in-30 challenge.  Thanks to Leslie Saeta for hosting!

You might be wondering, as a landscape painter,  why are you doing a drawing challenge?

In reflecting on my skills and abilities as an artist - I feel drawing is one of my weaker skill sets.  I am much more comfortable with a paint brush and colourful paints than with a pencil and paper.  It is my beleif that in order to really propel the quality of my work forward - I need to face my drawing demons.  And maybe I'll learn to love it a long the way....?

I am currently enrolled in an online atelier drawing program (Watts Atelier of the Arts) - focussing on drawing.  Great program so far with rich content and helpful assignments.

Here is the scoop on what this January will bring:
  • Over the next month I will share one drawing each day - some will be sketches, other more finished drawings
  • For those of you who receive email updates, I'll only be sending out 1 email per week.  This email will contain all my drawings for that week (my intention is not to flood your email).

Without further adieu.... here is my Day 1 sketch.
