This is a painting I did a couple weeks ago as a commission - a Christmas gift between sisters.
As you will see when your read the excerpt below, what an amazingly cool Christmas gift!
Theresa, the new owner of "Successful Trailblazers" shares the story:
"This painting is a moment in time where two years of concentrated community effort came to its unbelievable conclusion. The community of Kintore was challenged to defend why its school of 150 students (give or take) should remain open. This is a conflict that has occurred and is occurring all over Ontario as school boards steamroll over communities & shut down their schools in the name of fiscal conservation. The Kintore group worked hard & even surprised themselves with the logic of why this school should stay open. This painting is of a photograph taken when the board of trustees voted unanimously to keep AJ Baker School open. We hoped for a win, we never dreamed of a unanimous victory!"
Theresa also wrote a truly lovely comment on Facebook - a comment that really resonated with me and reminds me of why I am on this painting journey!
"It is not only an emotional picture of a big moment, but to me an inspiration that when something is important to you, and you are persistent & focussed, you can do it! I will have to pick a good spot to hang it for when I need that inspirational boost! Amazing how art can channel that emotion."
Thanks Christina and Theresa!
Find out why I had to pursue a career as a dietitian to figure out I wanted to be an artist:
